Details

The Cider House comprises of:

First Floor: Like Nutcombe Cottage and Nutcombe Barn, Cider house is a bank barn and therefore entry is from the rear of the property at ground level onto the first floor of the cottage. Here you will find an open plan living/kitchen/dining area with vaulted ceiling, exposed beams, solid English oak flooring and original stonework.

The kitchen/dining area is fitted with blue cupboards and solid granite work surfaces and is equipped with a Smeg fridge/freezer, ceramic hob and electric oven, dishwasher, microwave, toaster and kettle and enough crockery for two days supply for four people. There is a sociable round dining table with four chairs for cosy dinners in.

The open plan lounge area has a large flat screen TV with Freesat box offering over 200 channels as well as a DVD player with a small selection of DVD's. Enjoy the comforts of home with a Next two-seater sofa or one of two armchairs, perfectly positioned to enjoy the views from the lounge window. The furniture is solid oak to match the flooring.

The two en-suite bedrooms are located on the lower floor where you will also find a washer/dryer concealed in a cupboard under the stairs.

The king size bedroom has a large oak wardrobe with lower drawer, oak bedside cabinets with a wrought iron king size bed where you can lie and look out of the window at the views. It has its own en-suite bathroom with a full size bath for long lazy soaks with an overhead shower. We also supply a hairdryer, iron and ironing board so you can look your best too!

The single/small twin bedroom also has a large wardrobe with lower drawer with oak bedside cabinet. The bed is a full size three foot, wrought iron single with a full-size trundle bed beneath. This room can be set up as a small twin which is perfect for two children or left as a single for smaller families. There is also a luxury en-suite shower room with large walk in shower with rainfall shower head and massage jet system for the ultimate in luxury showering. There is access to the terrace from this room through French doors.

Large family gatherings To enable us to cater for larger parties, we have the capability of opening up between Nutcombe Barn and Cider House at first floor level to create one larger property that can sleep ten people in five en-suite rooms. This offers the perfect solution for large family gatherings like Christmas and New Year or just an extended family holiday. There is the option to have the furniture moved so that Nutcombe Barn becomes a social space and Cider House becomes a dining area. Please note This is not available during peak summer season.

Central Heating and WiFi All our cottages have full oil fired central heating with unlimited free WiFi.

Linen All linen is provided including towels and T-towels. We ask that you bring your own beach towels and dog towels and that cottage supplies are not used for this purpose.

Outside Space The Cider House has it’s own south facing enclosed courtyard accessed from the single bedroom which is equipped with dining furniture with parasol for alfresco dining, as well as two sun loungers. A perfect spot to sit and watch the swallows dipping on the pond across the courtyard and the views beyond.

Family Friendly We have available a full-size wooden cot together with a highchair for our younger visitors. There is also a stair gate at the top of the stairs for their safety.

Dog friendly We happily accept one medium/large or two small dogs in The Cider House. We ask that dogs be kept off the furniture but do provide throws for those who cannot resist. We also request they are kept upstairs in the living area and they are not to be left unattended in the cottage. Visitors with dogs at Cider house are asked to use our dog garden which is about 20 feet from the door and use the dog bin provided to clear up after their pet. You also have use of our three-acre field to exercise your dogs or just to observe the abundance of wildlife including, rabbits, badgers, the occasional deer and plenty of birds and buzzards flying overhead. Please see our Yours Dogs Holiday at Nutcombe page to see our Dog House Rules.

  • We enjoyed a wonderful break. The cottage was everything we could have wish for. So comfortable and with everything we needed. Thank you so much for our late booking. The Barnstaple & Lynton Railway was a particular charm.

    — Alan & Penelope, 01 Jun 2019
  • Absolutely gorgeous! Thanks so much for the very high standard of your cottage and your warm welcome. Not here long enough that is for sure. Lovely walk around Lynton & Valley of the Rocks also around Lee & Morthoe. We would love to come back here and spend more time relaxing and exploring the area.

    — Christine & Keith, 24 Mar 2019
  • A very special visit to Nutcombe; truly wonderful in every way. We wish you both joy and happiness and love in this haven of peace and tranquility. There is only one Nutcombe.... Thank you for welcoming us to your sanctuary.

    — Jacqueline & Ray, 17 Mar 2019
  • Lovely, well appointed cottage. Quality fixtures and fittings. Another great meal at The Kentisbury Grange. Not cheap but excellent fine dining. Great coastal and inland walking with fab lunches at the Store in Croyde which is great also for Vegans. Will probably be back very soon. P.S Al really enjoyed your cream tea on arrival. Thank you 😊

    — Jan & Al, 20 Jan 2019
  • A fantastic few days away as an extended family over the New Year. We enjoyed visiting several local beaches including Combe martin which were all wonderful. An exciting coastal walk in the fog and rain was one to remember! The three cottages were excellent with plenty of room for all. Very well equipped and safe for the kiddies of all ages, making the break most relaxing and enjoyable. The dog garden worked very well for us. Thank you for your kind hospitality, until next time!

    — The Roberts Clan, 04 Jan 2019
  • Helen and I always go away around our birthdays. We love this area and always enjoy our time. My dog Bear comes along and enjoys the beach as well as lots of extra cuddles. We had some lovely meals at Ye Olde Globe Berrynarbour, Top Chippy for a takeaway and Pack O Cards for Sunday dinner. The cottage is beautiful and so comfortable. Love the quiet and a real chance to relax. The cottage is so well equipped and comfortable. I also have to say that the shower in the single room is AMAZING! I shall certainly be wanting to bring my husband here for some relaxation and peace. Thank you so much, it’s been lovely.

    — Emma & Helen, 07 Oct 2018
  • We’ve had a lovely week of baking and needlework with lots of peace, beautiful views and a very comfortable cottage. Coldharbour Mill is definitely worth a visit! Thank you Jackie for all of your help in supplying the various extras we needed during our stay.

    — Bev & Jackie, 05 Oct 2018
  • Lovely comfortable cottage, the perfect location for exploring this beautiful corner of North Devon. We’ve walked and walked along leg-wobbling coast paths, beautiful moorland and various beaches. Mac the collie has run himself silly and is now in a collapsed, but happy state. Recommend the walks from Lynmouth to Watersmeet and Countisbury, Hunters Inn to Woody Bay, Holdstone Down over Great and Little Hangman and for those with lots of stamina, Morte Point to Lee Bay (be warned, this stretch of the coast path is very hilly, even for us Pennine folk!) We saw dolphins at Bull Point so we were well rewarded for our efforts. If the weather is inclement we also recommend Cleeve Abbey (English Heritage) and Dunster Castle (Nat Trust) both about 50 minutes’ drive from here. Thank you, Jackie and David, for the welcoming cream tea We may well return!

  • ‘Very late and short notice booking and how lucky we were to discover your farm! Everything was perfect and the situation sublime! The weather added to it but even without that we could have stayed in the cottage and just revelled in the scenery. The cream tea on arrival was WONDERFUL and a lovely surprise. An absolutely perfect week of rest and relaxation, for which many, many thanks. Love from the two dogs as well, Tatty and Trixie who said “Thank you for our doggy tags too” We put them back where we found them 😊

    — Evelyn & David, 14 Jul 2018
  • Lovely house in a nice quiet spot with plenty to do nearby

    — Kerry, Martin & Zara, 07 Jul 2018
  • We have read all the comments on previous pages and we would like to say ditto to all. However, I would like to add a couple of comments: 1) Cup and Saucers! How civilized and a real pleasure. I hate mugs with a passion!!! Well done. 2) White fluffy towels. I think this shows that you really care about your guests. It’s been a real pleasure. Thank you.

    — Patricia, Geoffrey & Barnie the dog, 09 Jun 2018
  • Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful, clean, well equipped cottage. We had a great stay and were blessed with great weather. I recommend if you have children, looking at a copy of the local paper as it has money saving coupons for attractions. We will be back again, and will be recommending your accommodation to all. Many thanks and see you again soon

    — Sam, Louise & Laura, 26 May 2018
  • Fabulous location! The surrounding landscapes are stunning and walks challenging and rewarding. Love Cider House; perfect for two and our dog. Very well appointed and very dog friendly.

    — John & Leila, 08 May 2018
  • Such a wonderful find, in one of our favourite parts of the world! Beautifully designs, well equipped and perfectly located accommodation. We very much hope to return. Thank you so much!

    — Guy & Gemma, 10 Apr 2018
  • Our third stay in The Cider House! Once again, a lovely relaxing experience. It always amazes me that even though we have been coming to this area for many years, there is still so much to see; we discovered a lovely new tea room in Selworthy with great views, quite a drive from here (near Dunster) but well worth a visit. As always, we had some great walks; Morte Point always a favourite. As for Cider House, we love the new oak furniture and the bed was seriously comfortable too. When can we move in?

    — Linda & David, 31 Mar 2018
  • The Cider House is such an amazing place to stay and was the perfect place for our mini get away to North Devon with our little one. The accommodation was superb; clean, tidy and equipped with everything you needed. It’s obvious that a lot of time and attention has been paid to make your stay here as comfortable as possible. The cream tea was such a lovely gesture as well. The location was perfect with a stunning view, but what makes it special is the attention to detail that has been given to the accommodation. It was so fresh and modern with a classic twist in keeping with its history. The furnishings were of an excellent quality, no expense has been spared. The beds are so comfy too! We would definitely love to come and stay again. Communication with Jackie was swift and efficient, making booking our stay quick and simple. Thank you

    — Dan, Kellie & Phoebe, 26 Mar 2018
  • Lovely cottage. Quiet location. It was quite an experience being snowed in for 1.5 days, but we were snug and warm inside Cider House. Many coastal walks and excellent eating places nearby.

    — John & Pam, 17 Mar 2018
  • Back for a second time in 8 months- love this place. We had a different cottage this time but it’s just as lovely as the Barn with new furniture and a lot of TLC- well done Jackie & David. Hope to be back later this year.
