Welcome to Elsley

We have given below some useful information and a few ‘do’s and don’ts’ to make your stay at Elsley more enjoyable. If there is anything you are not happy with, please call us using either our home or mobile number during your stay and will be only too pleased to help.

FIRE SAFETY

Due to new Fire Safety Regulations in Self- Catering Accommodation from 1st October 2023, we have enhanced our fire safety and guidance to guests. This means we now have to display Fire Evacuation Plans and other information in the bungalow. We have tried to keep this to a minimum. Therefore, it is very important that you take the time to read our Fire Safety Guidance in the Welcome Folder for your own safety.

Due to the new regulations, please note that we cannot allow:

  • The use of your own electrical devices such as air con units, deep fat fryers or fans or any other high usage electrical equipment
  • The charging of EV Vehicles or E-bikes
  • The use of candles or ethanol burners.
  • Smoking or vaping

Guest appliances have not been PAT tested and if a fire is caused by the use of any of these items, our insurance will be invalid, so please help us to keep everyone safe.

The charging of laptops, Tablets and mobiles is fine but please do not charge overnight, disconnect leads from the mains when charged and only use manufacturer provided charging leads.

DURING YOUR STAY

Elsley will be thoroughly cleaned to our usual high standard however, we ask that guests follow some simple housekeeping procedures during your stay to help us maintain these standards and enable smooth changeovers for our next guests.

  • Maintaining hygiene For your convenience, we supply Antibacterial Spray & wipes, Washing-up liquid, washing-up brush & sponge, dishcloth, scourer, bathroom cleaner and hob cleaner. We also supply one Toilet Roll, Hand-soap, kitchen roll, cling film and tin foil. Please use the cleaners to help keep surfaces clean but please do not flush wipes down the toilet.
  • Think Planet! With energy costs high, please do not have the heating on whilst the windows are open and remember to turn the heating down if you are out for the day. We also ask guests to be mindful of leaving appliances on standby or left on charge when not necessary.
  • Crockery/Cutlery/Pots & Pans Please ensure all crockery, glasses, pots, pans and kitchen utensils are cleaned thoroughly using washing up liquid and hot water. Please do not leave any dirty dishes or ancillary items on your departure.
  • Housekeeping There is a broom, dustpan and brush along with a vacuum cleaner stored in annexe off the kitchen but please do not use the hoover on the kitchen floor as it damages the surface. There is also an iron and ironing board. Please ensure the iron is emptied of any water after use.
  • Chopping Boards/Work Surfaces/Non-stick pans Please use the glass chopping board and breadboard supplied so as to protect the work surfaces and clean with anti-bacterial cleaner after use. Likewise, can you please ensure that table mats are used for hot plates and only the plastic or wooden tools are used on non-stick surfaces.
HEALTH AND SAFETY

Please be aware of the pond in the back garden. It doesn't contain water but can retain a little after rain and could prove a hazard to young children.

CENTRAL HEATING & HOT WATER

The boiler is set for hot water and central heating to come on at 7.00am and go off at 11.00pm. The central heating can be controlled using the room thermostat located next to the kitchen door in the hallway. Individual rooms can be controlled using the thermostats on each radiator. If you experience any problems with the heating, please call us at home.

FREE WI-FI

For your convenience there is access to free unlimited Wi-Fi at Elsley. To access please search for PlusNet 9THM. The password is 57a4584d6a

INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLIANCES

You will find a separate folder containing all the operating instructions for all the electrical appliances within Elsley in the bungalow on arrival. Please follow instructions for use carefully so as to ensure safe usage for both yourselves and others.

BREAKAGES OR DAMAGE

In the unfortunate event that something gets broken during your stay, please notify us immediately or if not urgent, at the end of your visit in order that we can replace the items. A small charge will be made for any significant breakages. Please do not replace the items yourself without our agreement.

WASTE DISPOSAL

Waste collection in Combe Martin can appear to be quite complicated, so please read the ‘Refuse & Recycling’ chart left in the bungalow for you (in the annexe and folder) to see which items can be recycled in North Devon and how to collect it. Please wash recyclable items before placing in the correct container. Collection day for recyclables is on a Tuesday every week (delayed by one day after a Bank Holiday) and ‘Black Bag’ rubbish is collected fortnightly on a Monday. Please see collection dates on the ‘Refuse & Recycling’ chart in the annexe. Biodegradable corn bags are available to use in the ‘Food Waste’ bin together with bin liners and dustbin bags, so please use them (located in the white cupboard in the annexe).
Collection is usually around 10’o’clock in the morning. Please avoid placing the black bags out the night before collection, as this encourages attack from wildlife.

LOCAL ATTRACTIONS

There are so many places to go and things to do to list them all here. There are a few leaflets on the marble top cupboard in the entrance hall, but for a more comprehensive guide, please take a look at our Local Area page on our website.

VACATING THE PROPERTY

Departure Time

Please vacate the property by 10am on the day of departure to allow our cleaners enough time to clean and prepare for our next guests.

Air the Property

Please leave all windows on the airing latch (slightly open but locked in position) and internal doors open when leaving.

Bed Linen

We would appreciate your help in speeding up our changeovers by following these procedures:

  • Please remove all sheets, duvet covers and pillow cases from every bed (used or not) and place in the fabric bag provided (see labels on the bags). Draw the drawstring and leave in the hallway.
  • Please leave the mattress protector, duvet and pillows on the bed.

Bath Mat & Oven Gloves

Please place the bath mat and oven gloves in with the dirty laundry

Waste Disposal

Please ensure that Elsley is left clear of all waste on departure (don’t forget bathroom bins and any food in the fridge/freezer/cupboards). Please follow these procedures:

  • Empty & Wash all recycling and place in appropriate bins provided in the Annexe
  • Please ensure you tie up black bin rubbish bags before putting in the bin
  • Recycle all food waste (Do not place food waste in the general rubbish) and tie up full food bags and decant to the larger bin in the Annexe

Basic cleanliness

In line with clause 7 of our Terms and Conditions, ‘guests are asked to undertake to leave the bungalow, it’s fixtures and furniture in the same good condition as they were found to enable us to maintain a very high standard of cleanliness and comfort for our next guests’.

We would therefore appreciate:

  • A quick wiz round with the hoover to remove as much dirt & sand as possible
  • Leave cupboards/fridge/freezers empty and surfaces clean.
  • Please ensure that the fridge/freezer remains switched on for the next occupants.
  • All washing up has been completed and put away in the cupboards.
  • Your prompt departure so we can achieve our high level of cleanliness for our next guests.

Leaving the key

Kindly return the door key to the key safe. To access the key safe, firstly release the black cover with the tab on the top. Next you will need to punch in the number 1207 and then slide the central top black button downwards. This should release the front of the key safe. If you make a mistake, press the lower central black button to cancel and then repeat as above. Replace the key in the key safe. To replace the front cover of the key safe, please re-enter the number and replace in the same way as you removed it.

Your participation in these procedures and prompt departure will help us ensure our changeovers are carried out efficiently to our high level of cleanliness for our next guests
